syslog_r thread safety

Hi,
Is the syslog function thread safe? From what I know it is not, and we would have to use syslog_r. but I don't find an implementation of syslog_r on my system? Is it because the syslog on my system implicitly thread safe and that is the reason why they didn't provide syslog_r?

what system do you have? I don't think it is safe to assume that the lack of syslog_r implies that yours is thread-safe.
