SNMP vs SYSLOG

Hi folks,
Are there events on a Cisco box that might send out a syslog message and not an SNMP trap of vice versa
i.e
If my Cisco network devices were sending out both unfiltered Syslog and unfiltered SNMP to the management server could there be any event on a device that might trigger a Syslog message and not a Trap, or vice versa?
Regards
