Get syslog to tag messages with facility.priority

Is there any way to configure syslogd to tag log messages with the facility and/or priority when it writes the log message?

I'm in a particular situation where syslog.conf is setup to send all logs to one file, but I can't
distinguish how critical each log message is by looking at this file.

Any ideas?

It depends on your distribution. If it comes with stock sysklogd, you can not do that. Some, most notably Fedora, already ship with rsyslog. With it, it is easy. You can also replace stock sysklogd with rsyslog or run it alongside just to get hold of the PRI. Details in this guide:
