Thomas Sidney Cooper

Cooper was an animal painter, who was encouraged by Abraham Cooper (no relative) and by Sir Thomas Lawrence. Thomas Sidney Cooper entered the Royal Academy Schools. In 1827 Thomas Sidney Cooper became a teacher in Brussels, and a friend of the Belgian animal painter Verboeckhoven, who greatly infulenced Cooper Thomas Sidney’s style, as did the Dutch School of the 17th Century. Cooper Thomas Sidney’s studio sale at Christie's laste three days April 12-15th, 1902.

In 1831 Thomas Sidney Cooper settled in London, and first exhibited at the Suffolk Street Galleries in 1833. Thomas Sidney Cooper exhibited 48 pictures at the British Institute between 1833 and 1863.

'Landscape and Cattle', RA 1833 was the first of a series of 266 exhibits shown there until 1902, without a break - a record for continuous exhibiting at the Academy. Sheep or cattle were Cooper Thomas Sidney’s constant subjects, but in 1846 Thomas Sidney Cooper attempted a large historical painting 'The Defeat of Kellermann's Cuirassiers at Waterloo'. TCooper Thomas Sidney’s and 'Hunting Scene', RA 1890, were Cooper Thomas Sidney’s only figure studies.
Between 1848 and 1856 Thomas Sidney Cooper painted the cattle in numerous landscapes by Frederick Lee and also the animals in landscapes by Thomas Creswick. After about 1870 Cooper Thomas Sidney’s commissions were so constant and lucrative that Thomas Sidney Cooper was tempted to yield to facile repetion of Cooper Thomas Sidney’s favourite themes, but the quality and competence of Cooper Thomas Sidney’s style only began to decline in the 1890's, by which time Thomas Sidney Cooper was an old man. - Cooper Thomas Sidney oil painting UK, da Vinci, Dali, Monet - Cooper Thomas Sidney oil painting Leonardo da Vinci, Monet –Dali oil paintings Cooper Thomas Sidney Bio Dali by da Vinci oil paintings England of England Dali oil painting Monet.

1827 - 1830 Thomas Sidney Cooper worked in Brussels, spending some time in the studio of animalier Eugène Verboekhoven.
1831 Following the political disturbance that led to Belgian independence in 1830, Cooper returned to London in 1831 to embark on a very long and successful career as an animalier
1845 - 1867 Thomas Sidney Cooper was elected Associate Royal Academician in 1845 and Royal Academician in 1867. Such was the standard of Cooper’s work that Thomas Sidney Cooper was commissioned by Queen Victoria and the Prince Consort to paint pictures of the Royal herd of pedigree Jersey cows.

   1902 Cooper was, like many other artists of the time, a tremendously hard worker, and despite Cooper Thomas Sidney’s early struggles ultimately became financially very successful.
